The great outdoors: a giveaway with ACAI Outdoorwear

We believe that anyone who enjoys gardening is a lover of the Great Outdoors. It’s simply a question of how much of the Outdoors you feel like loving. And as we batten down the hatches for the next few wintry months, there’s no doubt that getting outdoors might lose a little of its appeal for some folk.

However, as fellwalker and author Alfred Wainwright said, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.” Having the right clothing is invaluable when it comes to coping with the less favourable aspects of being outside in winter. And with that taken care of, you can focus on enjoying the benefits.

That’s why our eye has been caught by the women’s outdoor clothing designs from ACAI Outdoorwear. Designed by women, for women, what we really like is ACAI’s approach to what it calls ‘outdoorsing’. It recognises the physical and mental benefits of getting outside, close to nature, and it aims to inspire more women to do just that.

This autumn the company has run a number of outdoors-y events, including fellwalking, cycling, and yes, even gardening. Further events for women wanting to experience new adventures will be planned for next year, so if you fancy getting outdoors with like-minded women, we recommend you keep an eye on the ACAI Outdoorsing Club web page.

Even more impressive, the company has launched the ACAI Outdoorsing Fund, which aims to fund and support women’s outdoor community groups around the UK. The ambitious aim is to get over 60,000 women outdoors over the next year. You can read more about the Outdoorsing Fund here, and if you’re part of a community group which might benefit from this funding, email for more details.

The giveaway

We’re partnering with our friends at ACAI to bring you a great giveaway to kit you out for gardening through the chillier months. There’s an ACAI outfit up for grabs, plus a selection of our Burgon & Ball RHS-endorsed tools.

You could win a pair of ACAI’s Adventurite Stretch Skinny Outdoor trousers. These trousers are water resistant, have four-way stretch and are high abrasion, so they’ve been designed to be tough for activities such as scrambling. Of course, they’re equally good for bending, stretching and kneeling on rough surfaces around the garden or allotment. There’s a Go Explore hoodie in Forest Green too, which is also water resistant, has a funnel neck and cosy borg fleece-lined hood, so it’ll keep you warm and dry in a light shower!

In terms of tools, you could win this collection of classics:

RHS-endorsed border spade
RHS-endorsed border fork
RHS-endorsed trowel
RHS-endorsed hand fork
RHS-endorsed bypass secateur
RHS-endorsed fruit & flower snip
RHS-endorsed perennial spade

The RHS-endorsed stainless steel tools have a lifetime guarantee, and the cutting tools have a ten-year guarantee, so this selection will kit you out for years to come.

Together the tools and togs join together in a bundle worth a huge £356. That’s enough to put a smile on the winner’s face all winter long!
