Dalefoot Composts: Lake District farm-made
Dalefoot Composts started up over 25 years ago. It was founded in Cumbria by Simon Bland, a seventh-generation sheep farmer, and his wife Jane Barker, an environmental scientist. They saw that in the much-loved Lake District landscape, the invasive bracken cover was causing problems, making sheep grazing difficult while crowding out other native plant species.
Looking for solutions, Simon and Jane took inspiration from the time-honoured farming practices of the area. Traditionally bracken was used as winter animal bedding, which in turn was used as fertiliser in the spring. Combining locally-harvested bracken with wool from local sheep farms to retain water, Dalefoot Composts was born.
Dalefoot composts are 100% peat-free and Soil Association accredited for organic use. Packed with potash, they’re perfect for all types of growing and there are now eight specialist formulations in the range – some feeding your soil for up to two years.
BoronGreen®: a revolution in garden tools
Our BoronGreen range is new for this year, and it’s fair to say, we’re quite excited about it. RHS-endorsed and with a 25-year guarantee, it’s our first range of tools to use boron steel. Like high-carbon or stainless steel, boron steel is another composition of metal and it contains a tiny quantity of the element boron.
