National Children’s Gardening Week is here! It’s a great opportunity to get the kids outside, at a time when – hopefully – the weather is fairly kind. It’s the perfect time of year for planting, so with a bit of luck, seeds will sprout quickly for an encouraging result.
Gardening brings so many benefits, and can help kick-start a lifelong love for nature. It’s the perfect activity for families to enjoy together. Kids will always remember the scent of those first flowers they’ve grown from seed, or the taste of that first home-grown tomato - and you can share that with them! Aside from making memories together, it’s an activity which supports children's physical health, mental wellbeing and social skills. It also supports learning, develops fine motor skills and improves concentration. So go on – get them gardening!

A kids’ gardening project
To get you started this National Children’s Gardening Week, here’s an easy gardening project for you to try. Plant some seeds now and in less than a month you could be enjoying home grown crispy crunchy lettuce in your sandwiches!
You will need:
- Lettuce seeds
- Compost
- Trowel
- Watering can
- Recycled container or plant pot.
