Mum’s the word! Gardening gifts for Mother’s Day

It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to showing mums everywhere just how much they’re appreciated for everything they do for us – however grown-up we are.

Mother’s Day falls quite late this year, on March 31st, and that’s really not far off! The lovely thing about it being so late this year is that we’re more likely to get a sunny day, and a gorgeous gardening gift will be even more appreciated than ever.

Of course, it might be that you’re a hardworking mum yourself, and in need of a little bit of spoiling. Maybe you’d like to start dropping a few hints about what would be the best way to get into your good books – in addition to a lovely afternoon tea and perhaps a glass of something chilled, that is!

So what sort of gifts might be appreciated for Mother’s Day this year? Here are our top picks to give you some food for thought.

Drama queen

For the mum who likes to garden in dramatic style, our RHS Gifts for Gardeners British Bloom collection (top image) might be just the thing. Created using stunning historic botanical illustrations from the RHS Lindley Library, it has a fabulous and very striking design featuring dazzling dahlias, the garden’s most on-trend blooms. With RHS-endorsed tools and beautiful gift boxes, these lovely gifts have a real wow factor.

Potty about gardening

If your mum is ‘a bit of a one’ for her pots, we have some perfect new tools for her. Container gardening has become hugely popular in recent years; it’s fast, easy and flexible, and it’s perfect both for a splash of colour in a small space, and to add a stylish focal point in a larger space.  With the RHS, we've created a new collection of container tools to make container gardening easier and more pleasurable. Some tools for Mother’s Day could get Mum started on her summer pots for a whole season of gorgeous colour.

Simply stylish

For a mum who won’t leave the house without at least three matching accessories, we have good news. ‘Oak Leaf’ is the new design in our stylish Love The Glove collection of ladies’ gardening gloves, and we have created it in a choice of three colours, to match the most popular shades in our Kneelo® range of knee pads and garden kneelers. It matches our poc-kit and Hip-Trug ranges, too. So now her gardening outfits can be as colour co-ordinated as her daywear.

Houseplant hoarder

Houseplants can be addictive; we believe this to be an as-yet-to-be-proven scientific fact. If your mum has given her home over to the lush and leafy trend, we’re sure she’ll have room for one more. And stylish plants need stylish pots. We’ve added some new designs to our collection of indoor plant pots this year. From adorably tiny Baby Dotty to the endlessly elegant crackle-glazed Porto pot, there’s something here to suit any plant – and any mum.

Staying in trim

If your mum is a bit of a houseplant fiend, the houseplant tools might be the way to stop them taking over. A spot of judicious pruning can help improve houseplants’ shape, minimise disease and pests, and even promote blooming. In terms of tools, neat, controllable and precise is the way to go, and our Houseplant Tools collection includes specialist tools ideal for most types of houseplant. Whether her pride and joy is a hulking monstera or a delicate orchid, these tools will help her tend to it with loving care.

Make Mother’s day this year with one of these gorgeous gift ideas and get her gardening season off to a great start.
